Merry Christmas and Advent Calendars

Last Christmas Nana bought our Girls some reusable advent calendars.  This year our Eldest Daughter came up with the idea to turn the boxes around as they counted down to Christmas.

However they didn't like the plain brown MDF look as only the front faces of the boxes are painted.  So, we grabbed some Designer Series Paper (This Christmas DSP) and got to work.

Here are some photos of the calendars earlier in the month near the beginning of the countdown

and now, as we near Christmas, as more goodies have been collected and more boxes are turned around...

One chose to cover all her boxes with the same pattern of paper and the other chose two different patterns.  Don't they look great now that more have been turned around?  Which one do you like best?

Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope you have a wonderful time.

Another masculine birthday card

So here is another of my birthday cards from November.  This time it is Hubby's birthday card.

I've used the new Stitched Shapes framelits dies to cut all the DSP squares and to cut the white square in the middle.

Have you noticed how I've used a DSP that sounds feminine (Floral Boutique) but can actually be quite masculine?

And on the inside it simply says:

Supplies:
Cardstock: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Smoky Slate, Floral Boutique Designer Series Paper
Stamps: Guy Greetings, Thoughtful Banners, Designer Tin of Cards
Ink: Night of Navy, Smoky Slate
Other: Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies

For Lucy

I made this picture in memory of our fur baby (our first 'baby') Lucy whom we lost recently.

She was very much an outdoor cat.  She didn't like being inside - in fact, she hated the rain because it meant she either got wet or she was stuck inside.  One of her favourite spots in the garden was here, towards the back under those trees in the shade

So I tried to make the picture to show her in her favourite spot.  We miss you Lucy, always thinking of you.

An alternative use for the Pompom trim

Have you noticed the Whisper White Pompom trim on page 179 of the Annual Catalogue?  Well, here's an alternative use for it for you - I've just finished sewing this dress for Daughter #1, and can you see what's around the bottom?

Yep - Pompom trim.  Here's a closer look

Doesn't it add a cute touch to the dress?

Birthday for a Gardener

My daughter helped me to make this card for Grandad for his birthday.  We started by looking through my stamps to find masculine ones and when we saw Gift from the Garden we knew it was appropriate because Grandad likes to garden.

We then found the Seasonal Decorative Masks (which are currently on special - check it out by clicking the blue link).  You get four in the pack and there was one in particular we thought went very well with a gardening theme.  What do you think?

We used the sponge brayers to sponge Old Olive ink over the mask and we made our own background.  To get the pots different colours we used Stampin' Write Markers to colour directly onto the stamp.

We stamped on a separate piece of whisper white cardstock the watering can and cut it out.  We added water drops from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set and positioned the watering can appropriately.

We'd love to know what you think of this card?  Please leave us a comment below and let us know.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Whisper White, Old Olive
Stamps: Gift from the Garden, Sprinkles of Life, Balloon Celebration (sentiment)
Ink: Peekaboo Peach, Old Olive, Garden Green, Wisteria Wonder, Pool Party, Crushed Curry, Mossy Meadow (retired)
Other: Seasonal Decorative Masks, Sponge Brayers, Paper Snips, Lots of Labels

Best Birds Birthday

I have been a bit remiss lately in posting pictures of projects.  November is my busiest time for birthdays, let alone with Christmas just around the corner, so you will see plenty of pictures in the coming weeks.  Keep checking back for more.

Here is the card I made for my Dad's birthday.  He loves birds so I knew I wanted to use the Best Birds bundle.

When I saw Alisa Tilsner's card I liked it so much I cased it as is.  I coloured the birds with blender pens - they have very slightly blue bellies but it is a bit difficult to see.  And yes, Dad was very pleased with it.

And don't forget about the Online Extravaganza.  There is only a few more days to go and there are some One Day Only special coming up on Monday.

Supplies
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Island Indigo, Pool Party, Whisper White
Ink: Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, Pool Party, Island Indigo, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie
Stamps: Best Birds,
Dies: Birds & Blooms Thinlit dies
Other: Blender pens, Petal Burst Embossing folder

Rodney Christmas Extravaganza

We hosted our first Rodney Extravaganza on Saturday in Warkworth.  It was a great day and everyone enjoyed themselves.  Several are keen for a repeat performance which is awesome.

Here are three of the projects that were made?  The first one is mine - a star topped box with Christmas Mice parading around the base.

It included a Christmas Fruitcake to go inside and a tag which read "Have Yourself a Yummy Little Christmas".

Thanks to Angela Palmer for her instructions on making the box, which she adapted from a tutorial by Tracy May.

Second is a project that was taught by Bernice Collins.  She made a triple tier Wreath which was gold embossed.  It looked gorgeous and she very cleverly gold embossed the Christmas Trinkets from the Holiday Catalogue to match.

Next we have the project that Mary Pringle taught.  She made the cute little house box from the catalogue and turned it into a Christmas Gingerbread type house.

She also made a matching card to show how you can use just part of the die cut and keep it flat for use on a card.  Aren't they cute?

Clare Ellison made three New Zealand themed Christmas cards.  They were amazing but I don't have a photo of them as yet.

Did you join us on the day?  Which was your favourite project?

Happy 6th Birthday

This week was my youngest daughter's 6th birthday.  I have no idea where that time went!

When I came across this card on Pinterest I thought it was very cute.  I don't have a blushing bride inkpad so I tried Flirty Flamingo instead, but didn't like it and ended up going with a stamped off Sweet Sugarplum instead.  The colour has dried paler than I would like on the card but it's come up okay for the cat on the bag.

I love the sheet of Designer Series paper it uses which comes from one of the mini stacks called Playful Palette.  I have to sincerely thank Paula Reid, another demonstrator on our team who kindly posted me a sheet so I could make this card, as I didn't have the stack and didn't have enough time to order any in time to make the card.  It adds so much to the final result and makes it look great.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Sweet Sugarplum, Whisper White
DSP: Playful Palette
Stamps: Foxy Friends, Number of Years, Designer Tin of cards
Ink: Sweet Sugarplum, Old Olive, Real Red, Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo, Emerald Envy
Other: Gift Bag Punch Board, Fox Builder Punch,

Minion Birthday

It was our nephew's birthday recently and knowing he likes Minions I went looking for a Minion to make and found Abi Bundy's Minions

I didn't have the window framelit dies so I used a circle framelit instead and fed it through so part of my cardstock was sitting on top of the die and it only cut an arc at the top.

I used the tail part of the Fox Builder punch for his hands and the Bitty Butterfly Punch for his feet.  I placed him against the brick wall which I'd stamped with my sentiment before embossing.  I added a number 7 and it was done.

He was quite pleased with his card.

Supplies
Cardstock: Daffodil Delight, Marina Mist, Basic Gray, Whisper White
Punches/Dies: Circle framelit dies, Owl Punch, Bitty Butterfly, Fox Builder, Word Window, Little Number dies
Other: Brick Wall embossing folder, Silver mini brads

Ink: Crushed Curry

Detailed Birthday Card

It was a friend's birthday this week and she is also another demonstrator in our fabulous team.  Trying to come up with a card for another demonstrator is tricky business - they've usually seen and tried most things and it's a challenge to come up with something new.

I knew I didn't want anything too simple and when I saw this, I knew I had to give it a go.  The colours are just what I would have chosen myself to put together so I didn't change a thing.

Colours: Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette & Old Olive

I was so pleased with how it turned out, that I decided to make another one to keep in my samples box.  I had a play around with different colours this time:

Colours: Pumpkin Pie, So Saffron and Wild Wasabi

Colours: Sweet Sugarplum, Peekaboo Peach and Pear Pizzazz

Which one do you like best?  Please leave me a comment and let me know.

Supplies:
Ink: Early Espresso
Cardstock: Whisper White (Card 1: Melon Mambo, Pink Pirouette & Old Olive) (Card 2: Pumpkin Pie, So Saffon and Wild Wasabi) (Card 3: Sweet Sugarplum, Peekaboo Peach & Pear Pizzazz)
Other: Detailed Floral Thinlits die, Stampin' Dimensionals, Tombow, Fine Tip Glue Pen

Happy Father's Day

I hope all the Dads out there had a wonderful day yesterday.  We spent the day as a family playing board games and watching a new family movie.  In the evening we went out for dinner with Mum & Dad.  It was a great day.

Youngest Daughter made Dad a card using the Fox Builder punch and insisted (as young children do), that her fox had to be a rainbow coloured fox.  These little things make the finished project all the more special.  Here is the card she made Daddy:

Eldest Daughter made Dad a card at school with her class.  This was also very special and had some pretty cool drawings & a special message inside.  She chose to add to it at home with some stamps from a retired set called Going Global.  Dad loved his cards, his gift and the time spent with his Girls.

As for the bigger Dad's in our lives...

My Dad's hobby is photography.  When I was going through my stamps looking for ideas to make his card, I saw the set Traveler and realised I've never used the camera for Dad before - problem solved.

I made it using Old Olive & Soft Suede and yes he did like the cameras on it.  He thought it was very fitting.

Hubby's Dad lives down the line from us so we had to send his gift to him.  We decided on the old favourite - a gift card.  This style of card was perfect because it creates a little pocket that the gift card could slip into.
